FAQ

Understanding COE and the cost of a car.

What is a COE?

A Certificate of Entitlement gives you the right to own and use a vehicle in Singapore for 10 years. The prices shown here are the premiums from completed bidding exercises, in Singapore dollars.

What do the categories mean?

A and B are car categories. C covers goods vehicles and buses, D covers motorcycles, and E is the open category for vehicles other than motorcycles.

Category definitions have changed over time, so the same category can cover different vehicles in older results.

Why are there two results in a month?

COE bidding normally takes place twice a month. Each result is shown separately as the 1st or 2nd exercise.

The changes beside the latest prices compare with the previous available exercise in the same category.

Why are there gaps in the history?

If an exercise has no published result, it remains a gap in the chart. We don't fill it with an estimate or an average.

Where do the COE prices come from?

The figures come from LTA’s published bidding results on data.gov.sg ↗.

Is COE the full price of a car?

No. COE is one part of the cost. A dealer’s quoted car price may already include it, so check what's included before adding the premium again.

Where are the prices for individual car models?

Model prices and detailed cost breakdowns aren't available on sgcars yet. For now, you can compare COE premiums and their history.
