Can you get a better deal at The Car Expo?

Yes, discounts exist. Kia’s May 2026 price sheet listed a separate $10,000 Expo Sale discount. But an Expo offer doesn’t automatically beat the showroom, and waiting until Sunday evening doesn’t guarantee a better price.
What first-timers can expect
The Car Expo runs this weekend:
- Date: 24–25 October 2026
- Time: 10am–9pm
- Venue: Singapore EXPO, Halls 5 and 6
- Admission: Free
Expect new cars, pre-owned dealers, accessories, sales desks and crowds. Expo MRT is beside the venue.
The biggest benefit is comparing several brands in one visit. Adjust the driver’s seat, sit behind it, check the boot and try the controls. Bring whoever will use the car. Ask which trim you’re sitting in; it may cost more than the advertised entry model.
Don’t assume you can test-drive everything there. One April 2024 visitor reported leaving the crowds for C&C’s Alexandra showroom, where they test-drove and booked a Maxus MIFA 9. Ask whether the same package is available at the showroom.
How much can you save?
Kia’s May 2026 price sheet breaks down its Niro Hybrid EX offer. These are historical prices, not this weekend’s quotes.
| Item | $ |
|---|---|
| Published list price, including COE and VES | 231,999 |
| Regular discount | −20,000 |
| Trade-in subsidy | −8,000 |
| In-house finance and insurance subsidy | −8,000 |
| Expo Sale discount | −10,000 |
| Six-bid non-guaranteed COE package | 185,999 |
| Six-bid guaranteed COE package | 189,999 |
That’s $46,000 below list, but only $10,000 was labelled an Expo discount. The finance subsidy required a minimum 60% loan over seven years and authorised insurance; the trade-in subsidy required an eligible trade-in.
Proton also advertised up to $20,000 in rebates for the first 99 e.MAS 7 Founders Edition units at the May 2025 Expo. That promotion has ended.
Buyer reports are encouraging but harder to verify. An October 2024 BMW X1 shopper reported an offer of almost 12% off, including a trade-in. It wasn’t proof of a 12% saving over an equivalent showroom deal.
Get a showroom quote before going. BMW already advertises early-bird specials for this October Expo, and BYD has extended Expo offers after a previous show. The weekend isn’t necessarily your only chance.
Tesla: ask about incentives
Don’t budget for a salesperson privately cutting Tesla’s price. Tesla directs buyers to its online Design Studio.
Tesla does run promotions. In October 2025, it announced a $5,000 incentive for customers who ordered and collected a new vehicle by 31 December 2025. That offer is historical, not a discount to expect this weekend.
At booth D26, ask about current purchase, referral, inventory and financing offers, whether they combine, and whether they’re also available online. Compare the same variant and total price including COE.
Is Sunday evening cheaper?
Possibly, if the seller has room to negotiate. Don’t assume prices will fall on the last day.
Get a written quote early and keep the salesperson’s contact. On Sunday, ask for a specific reduction or an extra you’d otherwise pay for. Keep the model, COE terms, loan and trade-in valuation unchanged so you can see whether the deal improved.
Limited stock, colours or gifts could run out while you wait. Don’t let the closing announcement rush you through a contract.
Should you wait for the proposed COE rebates?
The proposed COE reforms would merge Categories A and B, with rebates for lower-value cars and surcharges for higher-value ones. It’s a proposal, not an available rebate. Consultation ends on 2 November; findings and recommendations are due by the first half of 2027. That isn’t an implementation date.
Could waiting affect Expo deals? If enough buyers hold off, dealers might improve offers to win orders. Buyers worried about future surcharges might bring purchases forward instead.
A proposed $15,000 rebate also doesn’t guarantee a car will cost $15,000 less than today. The future COE premium can change, and LTA says the proposal isn’t intended to lower overall COE prices.
If your current car is fine, waiting for clarity is reasonable. If you need one soon, judge the actual quote. Don’t count on a future rebate being applied to a purchase made now.
Before you pay a deposit
Shortlist three or four cars and test-drive the serious candidates. Then get these details in writing:
- Total price including COE and fees, with discounts itemised.
- Guaranteed or non-guaranteed COE, number of bids, top-up and refund terms, and any rebate if COE falls.
- Loan and insurance conditions, total interest, and a quote without those subsidies.
- Trade-in valuation compared with an outside offer.
- Exact variant, stock status, delivery date, warranty and deposit cancellation terms. For a used car, arrange an independent inspection.
Refresh your quotes after the COE exercise closes on Wednesday, 21 October at 4pm. A change in COE assumptions can otherwise look like an extra dealer discount.
If the only thing making you buy is “today only”, take the quote home.
